ELLIS
YOUNGER

Ellis started training in 2010 and opened NEJJ in 2015, travelling the world and competing alongside coaching.

 

As well as many achievements in Gi and nogi jiu jitsu at lower belts, Ellis won brown belt Nogi Worlds and has medalled at black belt Nogi Worlds and the European Championships.

 

Ellis regularly appears on professional grappling shows such as Polaris and Grapplefest and is considered one of the best talents to come out of the UK and Europe.

MIXED GI & NO GI COACH

1ST DEGREE BLACK BELT

Jamie originally started training in Newcastle after moving from his native Northern Ireland in 2007.

 

He joined NEJJ full time in 2014 after running a gym of his own.

 

Jamie also has MMA experience and is a wealth of BJJ knowledge, he has become one of our main coaches teaching both Gi and Nogi sessions, known for his attention to detail. 

JORDAN COOPER

7-12 YRS KIDS COACH

BLACK BELT

Jordan started training in 2010 in South Shields before splitting his training with NEJJ in 2015.

 

Jordan is a well respected competitor with multiple British Gi and Nogi titles alongside competing on major sub only grappling shows such as Grapplefest.

 

Jordan is our head kid’s coach and has a passion for developing the kids in our grappling program. 

ROSS TAYLOR

MIXED GI & NOGI, 4-7 AND 7-12 YRS KIDS COACH

BLACK BELT

Ross started training in 2014 when Ellis taught his first class from a local community centre.

 

Since then he has traveled to train and compete all around the world, medalled in major competitions in both Gi and Nogi.

 

Ross started coaching as a blue belt and is now coaching all levels within the gym. 

AIDAN WOODLEY

MIXED NOGI, BEGINNERS, TEENS & 4-7 YRS KIDS COACH

BROWN BELT

Aidan often referred to as the ‘Washington Oak’ , has been training for 9 years and is a brown belt.

 

Since joining NEJJ in 2015 at the start of his training journey he has become a skilled competitor appearing on Grapplefest whilst regularly making appearances around the country and at major tournaments internationally.

 

Aidan coaches our young kids program and also is the head coach of our Nogi beginners. 

MITCHELL OLEY

TEENS COACH

PURPLE BELT

Mitch is a purple belt and has been training for 6 years.

 

He is a fierce competitor on the national scene and competes most weekends in shows and competitions looking to add to his impressive highlight reel.

 

Mitch has MMA experience and has helped successfully develop the NEJJ teens program in recent years. 

LILY WAYMAN

WOMENS COACH

PURPLE BELT

 

Lily has been training 5 years, she regularly competes and has won a British title at blue belt & also medalled at the IBJJF nogi world championships.

Lily coaches 2 women’s classes per week at north east jiu jitsu as well other programs elsewhere where she coaches a wide range of ages and experience levels. 

RYAN SCOPE

MMA COACH

BROWN BELT

Ryan is our head mixed martial arts instructor. He’s been in gyms training since he could walk and his Dad Nigel was one of Ellis’s first coaches when starting out.

 

Ryan is a supremely talented fighter with his biggest accomplishment earning the Bamma Welterweight World Championship which he won in Newcastle at the arena.

 

Ryan has gone on to fight in major promotions such as Bellator MMA and is currently signed to PFL MMA.

 

Ryan is a purple belt in jiu jitsu and has travelled all over the world learning from the world’s best practitioners in striking and grappling arts.
