ABOUT US
North East Jiu Jitsu is the creation of Ellis Younger who is a black belt under Darragh O’Conaill.
The academy was established in 2015 within a small side room at a Washington engineering factory, since then the gym has moved twice and currently resides at its largest and best facility to date within Crowther Industrial estate not far from Newcastle and Durham.
WORLD CLASS COACHING AT NEJJ
Ellis Younger, head coach of North East Jiu Jitsu, is one of the UK’s most accomplished BJJ practitioners. With a wealth of national and international accolades, he brings unmatched expertise and a passion for teaching to every class.
ACADEMY CLASSES
NEJJ offers classes for all ages and skill levels. Kids and teens build strong foundations through fun and structured sessions, progressing from basics to competition readiness.
Adults start with our Beginners Program and can advance to Mixed Levels Gi or NoGi classes. We also offer Ladies-Only classes, open mats for sparring and drilling, and MMA sessions blending striking and grappling.
For personalised training, private tuition is available to refine skills or prep for competitions.

KIDS CLASSES
Our kids' program introduces young grapplers to Jiu Jitsu through fun, energy-filled sessions tailored to their age group. Younger kids (4-7) learn basic techniques and play games to build coordination and burn energy, while older kids (7-12) focus on Gi and NoGi training, skill development, and earning belts through consistent progress.
BEGINNERS CLASSES
Our beginners' program is perfect for those with little to no grappling experience. Taught in an 8-week cycle (start anytime), you'll learn fundamental techniques like standing positions, guard passing, and basic submissions in a supportive environment alongside fellow newcomers.
ADULT CLASSES
Our adult classes are open to all experience levels, offering a mix of Gi and NoGi sessions in a supportive and inclusive environment. Whether you're refining your skills or just starting out, our high-level coaches provide tailored coaching to help you progress. With options for women-only sessions, open mats, and advanced training opportunities.
OUR LARGEST AND MOST ADVANCED FACILITY YET
Now located in Crowther Industrial Estate, just a short drive from Newcastle and Durham, our new gym offers a state-of-the-art 120 m² mat space, modern changing rooms, clean shower facilities, a 45-degree pit wall for enhanced training, and dedicated spectator areas for friends and family to watch.
